Flexible Lamp for OLIVELAB s.r.l.
May light be flexible? Stoccolma was born as the answer to this question. Inspired by the the strings of a musical instrument, Stoccolma is a lamp that works thanks to the tension of two elastic and metal cables that support and brings current to a central Led. The result is a circular light source, minimal and pure, that can be moved and rotate of 360 giving the user the ability to personalize the direction and the position of the light. Stoccolma is an innovative and high quality light system, the use of four anchor points makes this object easily customizable and extremely functional.

The challenge behind Stoccolma was designing a flexible structure that works as a track on which the light point runs. The metal cables that form the structure brings power to the LED, acquiring double function and importance. The result is a circular light source linked to two brass and elastics cables through a special hooking system. This allows the light source to be moved and rotate of 360 giving the user the ability to personalize the direction and the position of the light.

The light source is LED insert in a disc realized in brass. The wires bi component realized part in brass and part in elastic. The anchor points and small parts are all realized in brass
The challenge was to work on the transmission of power to the LED in order to have a movable and rotatable light source. We developed a new type of wires with both technical and aesthetic features. A cable realized in two materials: a brass wire to give structure and transmit electricity and an elastic wire that allows the sliding.
Stoccolma lamp has been firstly designed in 2018 in a midsummer weekend. The developed has started in spring 2019 and the final product is going to be officially released in April 2021.
The use of four anchor points makes this object easily customizable and extremely functional: Stoccolma can be placed to light up a corner, can be used as a reading light next to a bed, can replace a wall arm lamp to light up a table and satisfy a variety of lighting needs. Moreover, the freedom of moving and rotate the source of light with the only use of the hand make everyone be part of the designing process of lighting his or her own space.
Power cables are usually a big problem while designing a new lamp, both for aesthetic and technical reason, especially when you want to design something interactive or with movements.
Inspired by the the strings of a musical instrument, Stoccolma is a lamp that works thanks to the tension of two elastic and metal cables that support and brings current to a central light source. The concept of tension and elasticity came from the architecture of a musical instrument, and it was translated into the generation of another physical phenomenon: light. Like a musician, the user can play Stoccolma as a lighting instrument moving, rotating and spreading light wherever is needed.
