Crypto is a modular lighting collection since it can expand vertically as well as horizontally, depending on how the single glass elements that compose each structure are distributed. The idea that inspired the design originates from nature, recalling ice stalactites in particular. The peculiarity of Crypto items stands in their vibrant blown glass that enables light to spread in many directions in a very soft way. Production occurs by means of a completely handcrafted process and it is the end user who decides how the final installation will be composed, each time in a different way.

Unique Properties
Crypto is a modular lighting collection since it can expand vertically as well as horizontally, depending on how the single glass elements that compose each structure are distributed. The canopy of the items that expand horizontally is innovative in terms of design. The entire collection adapts to any location: either just a private house as well as hotels and all wide spaces. Light can come from spotlights placed above the glass pieces or else it can be inside the glass elements.

Production Technology
The peculiarity of Crypto items stands in their vibrant blown glass that enables light to spread in many directions in a very soft way. Production occurs by means of a completely handcrafted process which leads to a different final result each time. There are 7 different moulds with 3 different cuts, for a total of 21 shapes, to which also different shades can be added. Shades are purposely shown as more intense in the higher part, close to the light source and less vivid towards the final lower part of each glass element.
Design Challenge
The most complex challenge during the creation process was finding the balance between the calibration of the moulds and the glass blowing method to obtain the exact wanted vibrant texture. What guided the process was the concept of molecular structures where singles elements combine to give one whole item, on one side and the know-how of artisan glass master on the other side.
Project Duration
The design project was carried out in Venice, in particular in the island of Murano, known for its artisan glass masters and it took approximately 6 months to get to the first final result starting from the initial concept.
Operation Flow
The end user is the one who has the last word on how the final installation will be composed and therefore it is the final client who ultimately adds value to the finished product, adapting it to a specific location and to personal taste: the beauty of this composition is in fact that the final result is always different.
Research
The research behind this product is focused on design and functionality, by means of aesthetics and materials. The main objective was to create an innovative glass texture, defined as vibrant: an hybrid version between a totally smooth surface and a hammered one. To reach such goal, empirical experimentation was carried out, involving two main tools: glass moulds in different materials and management of the glass blowing process. The result is a glass type capable of breaking light in a soft way, differently from the classical frosted glass.
Inspiration
The idea that inspired the design for the Collection Crypto originates from nature, recalling ice stalactites in particular; yet here, differently to nature, the single elements end up being empty as the hand blown glass becomes the real protagonist.
Project Overview
Collection Crypto Lighting Items has been a Silver winner in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design award category in the year 2020 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition. The Silver A' Design Award celebrates top-tier designs that embody excellence and innovation. This award acknowledges creations that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional, reflecting the designer's deep understanding and skill. Silver A' Design Award recipients are recognized for their contribution to raising industry standards and advancing the practice of design.
