Materials: food grade silicone, food grade ABS plastic , Technic: CNC milling, gloss paint, Surface contact: baking paint uses plain glass , partial matte.
As both Articulation Disorders and speech therapy are specialized fields, the team collected various data before deciding to start working on this topic. During the process, we spoke with several Speech-Language Pathologists. There were many issues to consider, including how to arouse children's curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, whether the assistive device is well developed, and whether it meets the standards, as well as the material, shape, color, and mechanism. The team went through many trials and revisions, and with the cooperation of the Speech-Language Pathologists and the supervisor, we were able to complete this product research together.
The project was started from January 2020, and was completed in Taoyuan,Taiwan in March 2021.
1.Carrot Assistive Device - An Assistive Device for Articulation Disorders that mainly trains the occlusion and oral muscles. 2.Chinese cabbage Assistive Device - An Assistive Device for Articulation Disorders that mainly trains the lip muscles. 3.Corn Assistive Device - An Assistive Device for Articulation Disorders that mainly trains the muscles of the tongue. 4.Pea pods Assistive Device - An Assistive Device for Articulation Disorders that mainly train airflow control.
The products are designed through interviews with professional Speech-Language Pathologists to make the design of the product more accurate and to improve the efficiency of correction for children with Articulation Disorders. The research focuses on the training of oral movements and coordination, and the design and intervention of the assistive device can be used by children for training in therapy classes and at home. Main focuses of research: 1. The appearance of the assistive device should attract children's attention. 2. The training of the assistive device should be gradual and easy to differentiate. 3. The training and counseling process needs to provide feedback to the child. 4. The assistive device should be interactive with the child. Our design changed the traditional model of using assistive devices and puts the child's perspective as the starting point. In the process of using the interactive mode, we hope to bring children a variety of feedback.
The prevalence of Articulation Disorders in children in Taiwan is around 6-10%, and this percentage is "increasing year by year".If they are not corrected during the crucial golden years of treatment (4-6 years old), they may remain with the child for the rest of his or her life. Taiwan has a severe shortage of medical resources for Articulation Disorders, a shortage of Speech-Language Pathologists, and a lack of assistive devices in the market for correction of Articulation Disorders.
