Splash Proof Partition for Akira Nakagomi
Many of Covid-19's temporary splash-proof partitions are cheaply designed. So Akira Nakagomi designed a splash-proof partition to add color to life, rather than a cheap temporary one. It is a simple configuration of a circular acrylic supported by a bent brass rod, and the rod is fixed with a brass cylinder. Another set can also be connected and fixed around the brass weight. The Object is a product like an art piece that emphasizes both aesthetics and function. The Object is also sustainable in that it can be displayed as an art piece rather than being unnecessary after the Covid-19.

The Object is a splash-proof partition set that enhances the enjoyment and vitality of life. The brightly colored acrylic does not only function as a tasteless partition, but also enriches the room. The circular acrylic is supported by simple bent brass to create an art piece like composition, which is sustainable and will exist as an object even after the demise of Covid19.

6mm brass is bent, and 500mm t5mm round acrylic is inserted. To prevent it from tipping over, 110mm t20mm round brass is used as a weight. Another set can be connected around the brass weight for fixing. There are two types of acrylic: smoked and colored. A wooden flower base can be attached as an option.
We did a lot of research on how to fix the circular acrylic. This was a difficult task because the method of fixing had to be beautiful and not exaggerated. We also did a lot of research on how to connect them so that they would be functional and beautiful when connected.
The project started in April 2020 in Japan and finished in June 2021 in Tokyo, and was exhibited in New Norma New Standard in October 2020, New Norma New Standard 2 in June 2021.

We conducted an Internet search and visited stores and restaurants to find out what kind of anti-corona splash-proof partitions are available. As a result of our research, we found that there are many temporary splash-proof partitions that pursue only function, based on the awareness that "Covid‑19 may end someday. Therefore, our goal was to design a partition like an art piece that would create a space even after the end of Covid‑19 Our goal was not to make the space lonely by the Corona partition, but to make the space gorgeous by the splash-proof partition.
Due to the influence of Covid19, there are many partitions in living space. Most of these partitions are temporary and cheaply designed. Therefore, we decided to develop a product that focuses on both aesthetics and function, like an art piece, in order to turn the negative image of partitions for Corona into a product that adds color to our lives. In addition, our goal was to create a product that would add color to the space like an art piece, rather than becoming unnecessary after the corona was finished.
