Firstly, based on the law of visual brightness adaptation, the brightness changes on the pedestrian flow line. Secondly, we paid more attention to the wall and ceiling lighting, making the interior space a higher visual brightness perception. The vertical lighting was applied to the lighting design throughout the project in order to achieve a better perception of spatial visual brightness. High color rendering lamps were also used to ensure the expression of colorful costumes in Chinese opera.
Lighting Design, Architectural Lighting, Functional Lighting, Visual Effects,Theater lighting
The building facade is illuminated with adjustable angle in-ground lights(10°,3500k)and floodlights to express the folding form of the building and the texture of the curtain wall. In the theater, we used adjustable angle downlights to illuminate the fan-shaped wave wall. The smaller theater uses linear wall washer to enhance the vertical walls of the space. The functional lighting of the theaters uses recessed downlights (50°,3000k) with high colour rendering luminaries. The interior uses LED strips to provide a comfortable environment for the atrium of the revolving staircase.
The lighting design needs to meet the multi-functional requirements of the theater. We did extensive research into the law of visual brightness adaptation, space luminance distribution and brightness changes on the pedestrian flow line. The limitation of each height demands on the lighting design and we use reasonable beam angle down-light to provide an overall illumination. Also, with the help of linear grazing lamps, we illuminate the interior walls to improve the spatial visual brightness of the public space and reduce people's sense of oppression to the low height of the space.
The Wanping Theater is located at No. 857 and 859, Zhongshan South 2nd Road, Xuhui District, Shanghai. The project started in April 2018 and ended in May 2021.
The lighting design strategy is based on the concept, which has been proposed to express the shape and texture of the façade, meanwhile it also led the lighting principle to the interior.
The lighting design worked closely with the architectural design. After the concept, we used DIALux to calculate the overall building illumination and adjusted the luminaire type to meet the requirements of the lighting scheme. We built a space and installed the luminaires going to be used in it. We selected the interior materials under these lighting conditions in order to achieve the best effect. During the final stages, we made precise adjustments to all the luminaires on site to create a uniform light environment and provide a more comfortable visual experience for the audience.
