Smart Kids Wardrobe for Size M Design
With this project, the designer wishes to add more joy to parenting, home studying and house working time during the COVID-19 home quarantine periods. With the Glay closet children learn to keep their clothes neat and tidy as well as being involved in creative play. This closet gives children imagination to create the atmosphere they want. They can transform the closet to play inside, can do coloring, and can arrange their clothes with it. It has also a frame for pulling out to be a secret play room, a table to write and two riding chairs.

The e door corroborated with E ink Cor. using e paper in the new area of kids furniture which is not often considered. It can be used as a drawing board, coloring board with bear patterns and shooting games. The wood surface of the door has holes for playing blocks, training logical thinking from 2D to 3D or practice numbers and the alphabet with it.
Using e paper on the surface made this project big enough to need a team of engineers and carpentors to work with, challenging their abilities and overcoming their reluctance to deal with Glay, which became a learning experience for all involved.
The project started in December 2017 in Taipei and finished in April 2018 in Taipei, and was exhibited in Salone del Mobile in April 2018, Milan, Italy. At 2019, it was awarded by Good Design Award Chicago, U.S.A.
Through blue tooth, parents can control the digital door color and patterns. The house work timer function could be arranged in the phone calendar as well. The designer wants to let kids know their sleep time is close by seeing the changing patterns on the door.
As a parent, the designer was focusing on how to introduce technology and digital things to children without missing the experience of real objects in their lives. He decided to use time as the topic on the digital door, to help children understand how fast the time passes by.
The designer showed his daughter a draft for a children's closet but she rejected it saying she wants a closet to play with as well as to keep her clothes tidy. While avoiding overuse of digitalization, Glay brings back the real touch and feel mechanics that naturally attract children's interests. By design the digital connects with the real life interaction.
