Table for HAF design and construction department
Ravaq aims to renew the grandeur those moqarnas ceilings covered with mirrors in a smaller scale. These forms are rooted in a 1000 year tradition and their modern reconstruction ties the ancient with the contemporary. Ravaq reflects the surrounding colors from different angles to match the place that it goes to more beautifully. The main challenge of ravaq was to create new and innovative forms from a traditional pattern and motif so that once you are faced by the whole pattern, its authenticity takes you back in time while you are still use that with modern furniture.

The main idea in producing ravaq was a high quality and perfect production, so we have used CNC cutting a stainless steel and glass sheets to minimize human error. The main materials its production are stainless steel and color glasses.
The main challenge of this project was to create new and innovative forms from a traditional pattern and motif so that once you are faced by the whole pattern, its authenticity takes you back in time while you are still use that with modern furniture.
I have been researching on Iranian-Islamic geometric designs and patterns in the last year and have been trying to design some furniture which is inspired by ancient Iranian architectural motifs. This and some other projects that I have done are the results of this endeavour. This project has been mass produced in Iran last December.
Ravaq is a special side table which evokes a beautiful volume of architectural in the performance environment. The main mass of the stainless steel is a mirror that interacts with the space itself.
Research on this project began by focusing on Persian architectural, geometrical patterns. Our aim was to use this two dimensional geometry and pattern to create three dimensional masses. Our main aesthetics priority was not to get trapped in repeating old fashioned forms and to create postmodern forms with new material.
Moqarnas is one of the mast important elements of Persian architecture. First it was used as columns’ to buttress domes and mosques ceilings. Then however, it became mainly a decorative element of the building these ceilings are usually covered with mosaic-style mirrors in order to maximize light reflection at any angle.
