Production Technology

Plasma torch consists from metal technology parts which are made of copper, grass and steel. Main case is made of plastic using injection molding technology for mass production. Another parts are made of ceramic, rubber, etc.

Design Challenge

The bigger challenge of whole development process was the fusion of design styling and technology inside that device. We tried to find optimal solution how to connect well looking product with perfect ergonomic feature and production quality. Another challenge was fitting all technology parts into tight plastic case.

Project Duration

The project development of technology and design started in December 2015 in Zlin district in Czech Republic and finished in May 2020 in Czech Republic.

Operation Flow

Plasma torch uses high temperature flame to cut steel and another metal materials up to 40mm thick. Due to ergonomic handle it is easy and comfy to operate this device safely and correctly. 20.000 celsius degree flame comes into being via ionization of gas nad electricity. Plasma cutting is used in industry mainly, but is available for home improvements and work as well.

Research

The plasma torch Thermacut is product by worldwide producer of plasma cutting systems for manufacturing industry with more than 25 years experience in this industry. Thermacut Extrafire brings new design of handle construction for comfortable cutting the metals by plasma arc technology. This ergonomic handle is one part of complex plasma cutting system powered by aggregate which uses gas and electricity to create high temperature flame 20.000°C. Plastic handle is a shell for plasma cutting torch assembly that carries plasma consumables. Handle with torch body is connected with plasma power supply that delivers current for torch operation. This torch and handle is designed for air cutting applications and works up to 105Amp cutting steel materials up to 40mm thick. Ergonomic handle offers multiple ways of holding for plasma operators. The operator can hold torch ordinarily with closed palm around handle or with the thumb on the top of the handle using special thumb rest spot as support for better leading the torch during cutting process. The handle includes safety trigger to turn the torch on only when operator wants and can not cause injury of operator.

Inspiration

New product design comes from previous series partly and brings new attitude of dynamic ergonomic construction. Body shape with new proportion is more comfortable to hold and opperate during work process. The handle offers more options how to hold device in hand due to organic form and rigorously defined grip fields.
