Chair for François GRASSET Design
A small, spiritual and dreamy chair that evokes the world of literature through the iconic object of a book. The backrest and seat take on the characteristic curves of open pages. The chair has been crafted in a minimalist fashion in order to focus on this resemblance, and to let the imagination be carried away by the wealth and beauty of the writing universe. The curved parts are made of polycarbonate that are attached to a 22 mm tubular steel base. The entire structure is lacquered. The chair is designed to be stackable.

Gargantua read "with his eyes sitting on his book". Formed like the curves of a book, the chair offers the reader a whimsical perspective; a characteristic that allows the reader to lose themselves in fantasy. The chair's unique profile gives it an instantly recognisable visual signature that attracts attention. Once the reader has finished their book, the chair can be stacked for storage.
Chair, book, literature, writing.
The chair is constructed from a 22 mm tubular steel frame and a pressed moulded polycarbonate seat and backrest. The entire structure is lacquered. The chair is stackable.
The challenge we faced in designing this chair was to make sure that the conceptual form of an open book was also functional. The curves had to be noticeable enough to play their metaphorical role, yet remain sufficiently understated so they would still fulfil their function as a seat. Proposing a book design that was too realistic would have restricted the imagination, so this was never the idea.
the project was designed during the year 2020 in France.
A small, spiritual and dreamy chair that evokes the world of literature through the iconic object of a book. The backrest and seat take on the characteristic curves of open pages. The chair has been crafted in a minimalist fashion in order to focus on this resemblance, and to let the imagination be carried away by the rich worlds of writing. The curved parts are made of polycarbonate that are attached to a 22 mm tubular steel base. The chair is designed to be stackable.
With the "Literary" chair, we have sought to develop a seat that "communicates" an invitation to meditation and escape. The chair had to be functional and delicate, it had to open up space and allow everyone a projection into their dreams. We also wanted the chair to have a striking visual effect. The curvature of the backrest and seat were therefore formed to resemble the pages of a book, a universal object known to all.
A small, spiritual and dreamy chair inspired directly by the world of literature. We bask there as though sitting in an open book. A book of adventure, philosophy or perhaps even poetry... The chair has an elegant silhouette, with a minimalist craftsmanship designed around the symbol itself. She dresses in white for a conceptual look; in colours when she wants to be more flirtatious. It will be possible to print messages, images on the chair.
