Unique Properties

We thought that a simple chair with only the necessary functions is the most comfortable and most beautiful. The beautiful organic form of this product attracts users to touch it. Each piece is hand-carved out of solid wood using Japanese hand tools.

Production Technology

It is created by carving a solid block of wood with a knife in order to achieve perfect seating comfort. This expresses a level of comfort that cannot be achieved with bent wood, cushions or springs. Japanese hand tool planes and knives are essential for this.

Design Challenge

As a craftsman, this chair requires daily training and skill. It took nine years from the first model to the current model. Designing a chair is very difficult due to various limitations such as strength, structure, and seating comfort, but the challenge is worth it.

Project Duration

The cocoda chair 2020 in its current form has undergone a series of model changes since 2011 and was completed in 2020. It is manufactured at KOMA Corporation in Tokyo, Japan.

Operation Flow

The solid wood is individually hand-carved by craftsmen, which makes the seat so comfortable that it feels soft even though it is hard wood, allowing the user to sit for hours without getting tired.

Every part of the product should have a meaning.It should have an excellent function.This is the ultimate in simplicity.We believe that the pursuit of simplicity results in beautiful design.

Inspiration

The complex cubic curves that best fit the human body cannot be created by machines. We believe that being able to mass-produce these chairs, made by hand, with one-of-a-kind quality is a new value that cannot be found anywhere else. It is said that the world of manufacturing will become more difficult in the future with the development of AI, but there is nothing to fear if we have the power and individuality to constantly create new creations.
