Multifunctional Reel for Eumakeit
Eumakeit is an upcycling design project based on the reuse of components and packaging of Eumakers filament spool to create functonal objects. The user is encouraged to take a critical approach to consumption getting concrete advantages. Indeed, the multi-component reel can be converted into a clothes hanger. Alternatively, it's possible to assemble its pieces with 3D printed models from the Eumakeit collection in order to put together home décor furnishings in a range of colors that would otherwise be impossible with common injection production technologies (over 100 shades).

Eumakeit is an upcycling design project based on the reuse of the Eumakers' 3D printing filament spool and packaging in order to give a second life to a possible waste. The user can convert the multi component reel in a coat hanger once filament is over. Otherwise, he can download and print Eumakeit 3D models assembling them to each piece of the reel to create customizable design objects. From a single spools it’s possible to create up to 11 different objects available in more than 100 colors.

Eumakers' spool is composed of 8 pieces in Ps-Polystyrene and 2 ones in Pc-Polycarbonate made by injection. The 3D printing filament wrapped on it is in Pla-Poly-Lactic Acid (biodegradable, compostable, non-toxic) produced by extrusion with a system 100% powered by solar panels. The Eumakeit upcycling design objects are made by assembling the components of the reel and its cardboard packaging with 3D models printed in Pla in more than 100 colors using additive manufacturing technology.
Eumakeit' challenge reflects the company philosophy of recovery and enhancement of plastic waste to create multi-component products with low environmental impact according to the principles of the circular & green economy. The goal is to create a zero waste product by sensitizing the user to critical consumption through self-production with 3D printing technology. The models are designed to be completely customizable in terms of colors and shapes and made of biodegradable plastic.
The project started in 2015 with the design of the Eumakers reel - In October 2015 H. Santos designed the first model for Eumakeit collection - In October 2016 Eumakeit is presented at the Maker Faire Rome - In January 2017 Eumakeit store is opened in Bari - In September 2020 the collection includes more than 90 models - In December 2021 the project is among the finalists of the Packaging Oscar - In January 2022 Eumakeit is selected for the "Created in Italy" initiative by Fioravanti, Iacchetti and Picchi
Eumakers Pla filament is used to 3D print objects in bioplastic Pla with the largest range of colors in the world (+ 100). Unlike what happens with the other reels available on the market, destined for waste once the consumable is over, Eumakers' spools are designed for a second life. The user can manually disassemble and reassemble the reel to convert it in a coat hanger. Alternatively, he can compose its parts with 3D printed eumakeit models available to create new customizable design objects.
Eumakeit collection of 3D models arises from the need to reduce and enhance waste to create functonal and customizable zero waste objects. Based on Eumakers multi component filament reel, a team of European designers has thought a series of models which, 3D printed in biodegradable plastic and assembled with the pieces of the Eumakers spool, allow the creation of functional design objects. The project therefore invites the user to make a responsible choice of consumable and self-production.
The idea behind Eumakeit comes from the company philosophy applied on a small scale. Our activities for the recovery and enhancement of plastic waste to produce bags and filaments are based on the principles of the circular economy through the concepts of reuse, recycling and reduction. All the objects of our works are thought as multi-components for a possible alternative use once the main function is exhausted. Thanks to additive technologies and bio plastics we can offer zero waste products.
