Table for d-Lab studio
Bilico is a modular garden table that owes its name to the structure composed of modules which, ending in a single support stand, make the table visibly unstable. Thanks to its modularity, it is possible compose tables from the smallest circular shape one, with two opposite heads, to the ideal infinity using central modules. The table, made of Pietra di Trani (a typical stone marble from Trani area), is completed by the central tub, led light equipped, where the accessories (trays, flower stands, lamps, cutlery trays, cutting boards, etc.) are housed.

Bilico is a garden table made of Pietra di Trani (a typical stone marble from Trani area) that owes its name to the unique structure consisting of modules which, ending in a single support stand, make the table visibly unstable. With Bilico is possible to compose tables of different lengths, from the smallest circular shape one composed by two opposite heads, to the ideal infinity. The table is completed by the central tub, led light equipped, where the accessories are housed

The main challenge is to give stability to such an impressive and visually unstable item, by using steel plates where individual stone blocks are fixed. These modules are settled to the ground, through the same press-folded bracket which is in turn fixed to a cement foundation, who has been previously placed under the walking surface. Last but not least, Bilico can be splitted into several blocks which make it easy to be transported.
The project started in January 2022 in Taranto and Finished in February 2022 in Taranto
The Bilico modular structure ideally allows a table endless development which, thanks to a single central stand, it seems to sail like a vessel whose stability is carried out by a cement foundation based below the ground. The central basin, with a grass layer inside, serves as a decoration and storage for different type of accessories like the cloud-shaped trays. This makes, as a whole, a landscape within a landscape.
When you think of a table, it is natural to think of a support surface made up of four legs placed at the table corners. In this case the support is carried out by a single support stand which is properly fixed to the ground, thus lightening the whole structure. The visible lightening is in contrast with the solidity and weight characterised by the Pietra di Trani, making the user disoriented.
Bilico is a garden table that came from the desire to bring the human being closer to nature. Human being can interact with nature as in an ideal journey where the contact is not only given by its intended purpose but also by the presence of green above the support surface. It’s like an ideal vessel that sails on a grass ground while carrying a little piece of nature made by grass and stylised clouds.
