Detecting Camera for Tongji University

WithYou uses a depth camera for human posture detection to protect users' privacy and detect falls. After falls occur, it notifies emergency contacts and medical personnel in time so that the harm could be minimized. Meanwhile, the professionals can provide guidance for the elderly through the speakers. At the time danger is detected, the light changes accordingly at once to give the elderly a detection prompt and to appease the elderly. The design team also designed a concise appearance in order to better integrates into the living environment.

Unique Properties

WithYou uses a depth camera for human posture detection. On the premise of protecting privacy, it detects falls and notifies emergency contacts and medical personnel in time to minimize the harm to the elderly. WithYou also has a speaker, through which doctors can provide professional guidance for the elderly. When an approach is detected, the light turns on and flows. Production Technology

In terms of algorithm, we use Depthmap for human posture prediction, Heatmap for background segmentation, temporal and spatial information for behavior understanding and human posture judgment. In design, we pursue simple design language in order to better integrate into the home environment.

Design Challenge

Data privacy is a major challenge for smart home, and how to protect privacy reasonably and effectively is the biggest problem we face. Therefore we therefore use a deep camera and develop the algorithm accordingly, so there is no possibility of privacy leakage from the data source. In the appearance design, how to make the protection detection device accepted by users is also the main problem we solve.

Project Duration

The project started in January 2021 and finished in January 2022 in Shanghai.

Operation Flow

Users set up emergency contacts and whether to call an ambulance on the app. After the fall, WithYou immediately notifies emergency contacts. WithYou also has a speaker, through which doctors can provide professional guidance for the elderly.

Research

Using a deep camera to achieve the acquisition of body pose information while protecting the user's privacy, and the corresponding algorithm development was carried out. Interaction with light. A flowing light is emitted to alert the user when he approaches. With the corresponding APP, a fall occurs so that the first time to notify emergency contacts and nearby hospitals.

Inspiration

According to statistics, 70% of elderly falls occur in the bathroom. In addition to fall prevention, timely detection after a fall is also a key issue. But for privacy reasons, traditional cameras in bathrooms are not universally accepted. With a simple and friendly appearance, WithYou better integrates into the environment.
