Pet Bowl for Vladimir Zagorac
Cone Bowl was created to nurture good habits in pets, acting as a physical and psychological guide for feeding and drinking properly, safely and with discipline. The shape of the object was researched to benefit both pets and owners, promoting slower feeding times and preventing water spillage. A single unique form is usable for both purposes depending on orientation.

The bowl features a unique combination of circular and triangular shapes, building positive and negative spaces, both sharp and round. Its contrasting form allows it to be used both for serving food and water, depending on orientation. A characteristic set of protrusions and recesses act as physical and psychological guides for the pet to use it properly, safely, and with discipline. An intriguing form that promotes slow feeding and prevents splashing finds its place in any modern interior.
Pet Bowl, Multifunctional, Slow Feeding, Splash-proof, Small and Medium Size Breeds
Molded food grade nontoxic polymer and mineral composite. Full volume object.
The shape of the product had to be friendly, but firm enough to guide the pet using it. Even though drinking water does not cause capsizing, an object with a low center of gravity was expected. The form was accented in both positive and negative space using a central focus point. Since the product would be used by inverting with both solid food and liquid, contrast was embraced. The clash of pointed and round forms, raised and recessed surfaces, is emphasized once the food dish is filled, while the gradual change in form and size, from round to triangular, becomes more apparent with poured water.
The project lasted for two months, it took place in Belgrade, Serbia.
When serving food, the structure provides stability on any ground surface, and prevents capsizing if a dog is eager to eat. The elevated dish requires less strain on the neck of the pet, and allows easy grip when lifting the bowl. The central cone dictates a slow meal, making the pet eat around it in smaller bites, preventing potential stomach problems. When serving water, the top edge guides the pet's head to the optimal central position above the bowl, which reduces spillage. The recesses allow a natural approach to water, while the three raising corners form barriers for splashing water.
The form of the bowl is the result of research on the problems of everyday usage. A well-paced meal and less water spillage were the main guidelines. The challenge was to define the areas that required the most protection from spillage while keeping an open design. For this purpose, slow-motion footage of different breeds drinking water was carefully observed, and the characteristic anatomy of a rolled tongue was studied. The research showed that the majority of spillage occurs in front of the snout when the tongue hits the water and to the sides when the water spills from the rolled tongue.
Inspiration was found in the designer's pursuit to create a single object intended for feeding and drinking that annuls potential problems with health, hygiene, and discipline. Cone Pet Bowl was born primarily to nurture good habits in dogs of Small and Medium Size breeds.
