Drinking Glass for Vladimir Zagorac
Curve Glass is an exploration of function, conceptualized with the idea to solve multiple problems with a minimal intervention on a traditional form. The design offers more usage options when preparing, and brings more freedom when enjoying a drink. A slight recess helps a straw be kept in place while drinking or after stirring. It also allows the glass to dry more efficiently, and brings new possibilities for garnishing a beverage. Curve Glass changes old unnecessary habits, and improves the experience and sensation of using an everyday object, allowing the user to be creative on their own.

A defining feature, slight curved recess on the edge of the Glass, helps the straw to be kept in the right direction securely once the Glass is tilted, without using both hands. This indentation helps when the drink is being stirred also, allowing the straw to fall in place on its own. When the Glass is washed and placed upside down on a flat surface to be dried, this recess allows the leftover water to evaporate, which can prevent unpleasant odor and formation of mildew inside the Glass.

Curve Glass was conceptualized to give the user more options when preparing and more freedom when enjoying a beverage. The challenge was to enrich the function of an everyday object with a simple intervention in form, to change unnecessary habits we are accustomed to, and to improve the experience of the product. The form remained within minimalism but also had to be inviting, while the general silhouette needed to depict elegance and radiate sensuality.
The project lasted several weeks and took place in Belgrade, Serbia.
Curve Glass is instinctively held with the recess turned towards the user. If a straw is used, it is positioned the right way by gravity whenever the Glass is tilted. The recess is minimal so the drink does not spill. When drinking without a straw, the user experiences a different, pleasant sensation while the lips are touching the recess. To have a drink the traditional way, turn the recess away. When washing up is finished, turn the Curve Glass upside down to stay hygienic.
Introduction of the curved recess created a product that can be used for more purposes than initially expected, also allowing the user to be creative. It opened possibilities to explore further usages, such as placing a long spoon, or a piece of fruit or garnish securely when preparing beverages and cocktails. An empty Curve Glass could also be used to discourage from smoking in a subtle manner. If a user tries to place a cigarette on the edge, the recess will not fit the cigarette.
Even though we're used to it, drinking or stirring a beverage with a straw requires constant awareness of the direction in which the straw is pointed. Drinking trough a straw could also require both hands, which is needless. Another existing problem with glasses is drying them properly. Curve Glass is an exploration of function conceptualized with the idea to solve multiple problems with a minimal intervention, which led to unexpected results.
