Unique Properties

A title angle about 80° of the rear seats of SUV causes a waste of some space when the vehicle storage box for trunk is used. User’s experience may be compromised by tumbling box on bump roads, because the box cannot fit to the vehicle. This trunk storage box is specially designed in a trapezoidal shape to fit the angle of rear seats and maximizes the use of space in trunk. The box opened with magnetic and flip-down lid fits more car models and make it easier for rear seat occupants to access the desired articles while driving.

Production Technology

EPP, the abbreviated term of Expanded polypropylene, is a short name for new foamed plastic. The unique properties render it available as a fast-growing, eco-friendly new cushioning and insulation material that can be recycled and reused. It has been extensively used in car bumpers and bumper guard linings, as well as in a growing number of innovative products such as mother and baby products, safety seats, children's furnishings.

Design Challenge

We are motivated to identify the neglected zones, make these zones more user-friendly and serve the needs of car owners at different ages. This product is required to be light, portable and easily assembled with perceived safety. As a result, we should not follow the veins of traditional storage boxes to design this car product, and how to design against the specific needs of users and make them surprised is considered the biggest challenge.

Project Duration

The project was conceived in Shanghai in June 2022 entered the design phase in Hangzhou in August 2022. entered the volume production in Changzhou in March 2023 and scheduled to be available for online sales in April 2023

Operation Flow

Each side is designed with folding clasp, assembled and folded within five seconds without aid. Once folded, little space is occupied, the front lid is opened and closed with a strong magnet, and there is no lock catch. The simple design surprisingly provides a higher level of safety and even in case of danger, user will not be threatened by any impact.

Research

Chinese car buyers ranging from young to middle-aged and elderly consumers prefer SUV than sedans. We interviewed some car owners and found they chose to buy SUVs for larger space. Despite this, there is still inadequate effective space in car, even if you have sorted out items the box, after driving a while, you have to sort out items again. Understanding these pain points help us modify this work.
