Unique Properties

The mini washer and dryer combo can automatically wash, dry, and sterilize underwear. Instead of rubbing clothes against each other or dashing them on the tumble walls, its trailblazing micro bubble suspension technology can release numerous nanobubbles for a mild but thorough cleaning result. It will then dry clothes moderately in its airtight tub at a low temperature and a negative pressure, preserving the softness and strength of delicate silk fabrics.

Production Technology

This washer and dryer combo features a single tub, and has its air duct and water duct integrated into one. This optimized structure ensures that the tub wall can be dried simultaneously with clothes, overcoming the defects in the like products with two tubs, such as wetness, fouling, and the resulting breeding ground for bacteria and viruses in the gape between tubs. To align with sustainable development, it is mainly made from a degradable blend of PC and ABS via a green manufacturing process.

Design Challenge

To solve the wrinkling problem caused by traditional wash and spin cycles, the design team developed the micro bubble suspension technology for mild but thorough cleaning. This innovation completely prevents the fabric damage incurred by the intense friction or impact in pulsator wash and tumble wash. And upon the completion of a wash cycle, this machine will then conduct a moderate drying process at a low temperature and a negative pressure, helping reduce wrinkles to a minimum.

Project Duration

The design and development of this mini washer and dryer combo started in Shunde, China, in December, 2021. It was introduced to the market in Shunde, in May, 2023.

Operation Flow

Users can select the cleaning mode as needed just with a click of a button on its intuitive control panel. It is really that simple and convenient to operate. Moreover, it is equipped with a side detergent cartridge and an auto dosing system, which can deliver exactly the right dose according to the laundry load and settings, fully eliminating the dilemma of over or under dosing. The synergy of germicidal laundry detergent, UV and pasteurization can kill over 99.9 per cent of bacteria and virus.

Research

The research conducted by the design team reveals that Chinese females generally prefer to wash their underwear by hands rather than using a traditional washing machine, partly out of the concern for the cleaning result, and partly because they consider it unhygienic to have their underwear to be washed with other clothes in a common washing machine. As a result, about 60 per cent of Chinese females have turned to mini underwear washing machines.

Inspiration

The design team found that releasing a large amount of nanobubbles in a wash cycle could effectively remove the stains and suspend the clothes in the water with no need of the mechanical components such as a pulsator, yielding a thorough but mild cleaning result while preventing wrinkles. Based on these findings, the design team developed the micro bubble suspension technology and further applied it on this mini washer and dryer combo for underwear cleaning.

Project Overview
