Crafted from sustainable, legally sourced wood, the Celina Chair merges durability with sophistication. The wood's natural hardness and deep color create a striking contrast with the chair’s gentle, organic curves, which are achieved through precise machining techniques. The chair features no visible screws, highlighting the precision of its joinery and the purity of its design. The piece represents a fusion of nature, comfort, and precision, offering a timeless addition to any space.

The chair is made from solid reforested wood, legally sourced and suitable for indoor use. The seat features eco-friendly leather and recycled foam. The parts are precisely machined using CNC machines, and the joints are made with only the wood itself and glue, concealing the screws. The wood is sanded multiple times to achieve a smooth finish and treated with a non-toxic varnish.
The main challenge was balancing the durability and hardness of the wood with the need for ergonomic comfort. Achieving a seamless, screw-free design while maintaining structural integrity was a significant technical challenge. Additionally, sourcing sustainable wood and ensuring its compliance with environmental regulations required meticulous planning and coordination with suppliers.
The Celina Chair project commenced in June 2024 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and was completed in November 2024. The chair is scheduled to be exhibited at the Abimad fair in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in July 2025.
The Celina Chair is designed for effortless interaction. Its ergonomic curves naturally guide the user into a comfortable seating position, enhancing relaxation. The absence of visible screws allows for a seamless aesthetic, while the chair’s solid structure provides reliable support. Its simplicity in design means that no assembly is required, making it easy to integrate into any space.
This design project explored sustainable material usage and ergonomic chair design, focusing on the interaction between form, function, and materiality. The research included an investigation of natural forms, inspiring the chair's curves, and investigated local materials with legal commercial permissions. The findings emphasized the importance of sustainable sourcing and ecological design, highlighting the balance between aesthetics, comfort, and environmental responsibility.
The Celina Chair draws inspiration from its name, which evokes meanings of heaven and celestial bodies. The design reflects lightness and grace, with flowing lines that evoke a sense of serenity and connection to the sky. Additionally, the chair is influenced by the natural flow of rivers, reminiscent of the intricate patterns formed by waterways seen from above. Celina embodies a timeless presence, inviting contemplation and comfort through its thoughtful, nature-inspired design.
Celina Chair has been a Golden winner in the Furniture Design award category in the year 2024 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition.
