Pendant Lamp for Maytoni
Combining impressions of the surrounding nature with the traditions of glass production and 3D printing technologies this was the idea of the project. Many people are fascinated by the northern nature, huge forests and winter landscapes. In order for each person to bring an element of this aesthetic at home and the Frozen collection was created. A fragment of the tree was used, which was scanned in 3D, and changed in a special program. This was done so that when creating a glass element, the wood pattern was more pronounced and the glare of light on it looked more interesting.

The spirit of northern nature is associated with frozen snow-white landscapes and endless forests. To show it with glass, it was necessary to go for a non-trivial technological solution. A fragment of the tree was used, which was scanned in 3D, and changed in a special program. This was done so that when creating a glass element, the wood pattern was more pronounced and the glare of light on it looked more interesting, as well as so that the element was more tactilely pleasant. The glass was created from cast glass, but the light bulb hole was made matte. Thanks to this, the appearance of the light bulb does not distract from the design of the lamp and the light has become muffled and soft.

The lamps are made of cast glass of different colors: transparent, tinted green-blue and matte white glass. These colors are associated with winter landscapes. The light source in the lamp is a replaceable light bulb G4. The hole in the glass for the light bulb is made in a matte color so that the light bulb is not visible, and the luminous flux is softer for the human eyes. Neat fasteners for cylindrical glass have been developed. The height of the wire 3000 mm may vary. The collection has 3 models with different numbers of lamps and in different colors.
In order to create lamps inspired by northern nature, it was necessary to interview people and learn about their associations with this topic. It was also necessary to study the floristry of these regions. After it was decided to use part of the wood as a basis, it was necessary to study the traditions of glass production. At first, it was decided to make glass using 3D scanning of wood, but the first glass sample looked too simple, without pronounced patterns and texture. Therefore, it was decided to change the design manually. It was also necessary to calculate the weight of the glass, since the cast glass is very heavy, and also come up with neat glass mounts that would match the design.
The project started in January 2023 in Moscow and finished in January 2024 in Moscow, and was exhibited in Interlight in September 2024.
The collection is made in current and popular colors and therefore can complement different interior styles, as well as bring the spirit of northern nature to your home or public space. There are several models in the collection that can perform various functional tasks of pendant lamps.
The study of human associations provided insight that northern nature is associated with forest and color combinations of white, green, and blue, as well as frosty textures and natural materials. This made it possible to choose natural glass as the main material for the design of the lamp. It looks natural and allows you to create various shapes and effects. Also, the study of the properties of glass made it possible to create a tactile complex shape that perfectly refracts light.
Combining our most sparkling impressions of the surrounding nature with the traditions of glass production and 3D printing technologies - this was the main idea of the project. Many people are fascinated by the northern nature, huge forests and winter landscapes. In order for each person to bring an element of this aesthetic at home and the Frozen collection was created. A fragment of a tree was taken in it and, using 3D scanning, it was finalized in special programs. Thus, a cast glass model with thoughtful engineering properties was created.
