Production Technology

Centauri Carbon's top frame and chassis are crafted using a 500-ton industrial die-casting process. Reinforced by four aluminum alloy pillars, it ensures exceptional structural stability and assembly accuracy, forming a solid foundation for high-speed printing. Its dual-sided build plate, featuring PEI for balanced adhesion and epoxy resin for a firm grip at lower temperatures, maximizes material compatibility while saving up to 35% energy, making it both versatile and cost-effective.

Design Challenge

The key challenge was meeting the stringent functional design requirements, particularly for auto-leveling, which demands precise material dimensions and minimal errors. To address this, engineers conducted multiple testing rounds to fine-tune the solution. In the CMF phase, the focus shifted to creating distinct color options to stand out in a crowded market. Throughout mass production, factors like material defects and supplier issues required quick adjustments to ensure smooth production.

Project Duration

The development of the Centauri Carbon began in August 2023 and was completed in October 2024 in China. It was unveiled at the Rapid+TCT Exhibition in June 2024 and officially launched in February 2025.

Operation Flow

With a fully integrated die-cast frame, this 3D printer arrives ready to use, eliminating the need for assembly. Its auto-leveling and self-check functions streamline setup, removing common hurdles for beginners. A 4.3-inch full-color touchscreen enables intuitive control, while dual glass panels provide a clear view of prints. Features like remote monitoring, time-lapse photography, and power-loss recovery enhance convenience, ensuring a seamless experience for home users and newcomers.

Research

Employing user surveys, user interviews, and user portrait analysis, the research identified four priorities shaping home users’ purchasing decisions: safety, performance, ease of use, and energy efficiency. In response, the design incorporates a fully enclosed chamber, CoreXY kinematics, high-torque motors, and intelligent sensing. These refinements not only elevate print quality but also simplify operation, aligning technological sophistication with broader accessibility.

By leveraging user behavior insights, our team has redefined the common open-frame FDM design, introducing a fully enclosed structure with dual glass panels, high-precision CoreXY kinematics, and a built-in chamber camera.
