Sauce Dish for Atılım University
This sauce bowl is designed to serve the sauces with the meal. The design is an abstraction of the castle, the moat that surrounds it, and the bridge that leads to the castle. It is made of porcelain. Bridge can be made of metal or natural stone. Since the set of products will be sold one by one, the consumer can decide which fort he will buy. Each sauce bowl is around 180mm. It is important that the auxiliary products used in the presentation are memorable as well as aesthetic in food presentation.

Castle typologies used in history and selected from three different continents decorate our tables under another function by abstraction.

Porcelain was used in this design. Porcelain is produced from naturally sourced raw materials. Its whiteness is not from the dyes used; it takes from the raw materials in its recipe. After the clay is shaped, hard porcelain is obtained by firing at 1400 °C. Porcelain is aesthetic and elegant, represents health and hygiene, is easily cleaned from stains, has very low water absorption, so it does not contain bacteria on its surface. The bridge can be made of metal or natural stones such as marble.
Abstraction is the process of reducing the information content of a concept. This reduction is done to obtain the information required for a specific purpose more easily. Abstraction in architecture is one of the most important methods used both in the design process and in understanding and reading existing structures. The abstraction of the castle typology selected from three different continents as a product and reconsidering it in a different function is the biggest challenge of this design.
The project started in March 2020 and finished in November 2020.
This sauce bowl is designed to serve the sauces with the meal. It consists of a castle, moat and bridge. The castle part adds a visual richness and makes it easier to hold the sauce during its removal. The desired sauce can be placed in the moat part. The bridge piece is movable and can be positioned where desired. The purpose of the bridge is to prevent dripping when the food is immersed in sauce. When the food is touched on the bridge, the excess sauce flows back into the sauce bowl.
Sauce is an auxiliary meal in liquid or semi-solid form used in the preparation of a meal in cooking or served with it during the service. In this design, considering the fluidity properties of the sauces to be served with the meal, how much sauce the bowl should contain and the appropriate depth of the sauce in the container were investigated. In researches, it has been revealed that by obtaining different depths, it is necessary to use the sauce more or less and to pour the excess sauce.
Art is an expression of creativity and imagination. Is it possible to use imagination for an aesthetic food presentation and prepare plates inspired by architectural works? With this sauce bowl design, the typology of the castle types used in different continents in world history was abstracted and the trilogy of castle, moat and bridge was combined in a different function. These three sauce bowls prepared around the castle theme and will stand out both in terms of catching up with each other.
