This is a unique bookcase design. The most different thing about it is that it is a DIY bookcase. It is divided into small wood box and white big bookcase as two parts. The bookcase can put four small boxes in each row and six in each column. The small box can also be placed in four directions. This combination opens multiple possibilities. Users can make up their own patterns according to this feature.

The bookcase is made of pine wood. Pine does not have a very good smell of pine fragrance, texture is very soft, is the cheapest material in solid wood furniture, widely used in mid-grade solid wood furniture, many log furniture and children's furniture are made of pine. It has the advantages of cheap price, natural environmental protection, not easy to deform, clear and beautiful texture, strong elasticity and air permeability, good thermal conductivity and simple maintenance.
This is an innovative design with a complex internal structure, and the machining qualification rate is the biggest challenge encountered by this project.
The project started in September 2020 in Milan and finished in February 2021 in that place, and was exhibited in China in February 2021.
First, remove all the small boxes when users start assembling. The size of the bookcase can hold 4 small boxes in each row and 6 in each column. Then make them stack up after filling out the row. Each small box has 4 direction to put altogether. Users can diy according to the pattern that they like.
The most common consideration for users to buy bookcases is the amount of storage, the convenience of using (taking books to buy books), the space, the safety (including formaldehyde and stability), and the cost performance. Formaldehyde is mainly a problem to be considered when choosing wooden bookshelves.
I got inspiration from the ancient Chinese grille and designed this bookcase by the form of a grid. Nowadays, more and more people like DIY products. The motivation for our design is that this is a free-form bookcase. Too neat a grid is not free. So, we rotate one part of the small box by 45 degrees. This not only fits our design motivation, but also allows users to combine patterns according to their own preferences.
