Unique Properties

Production Technology

Material is teak, it is all a dry shrinkage is wet bilge minimum deformation of wood, after professional drying treatment, stable size very wear-resisting, the shrinkage rate from raw material to air dry to radial 2.2%, 4.0%, is the minimum deformation coefficient of the wood, good resistance to bending, wear-resisting, air dry density is 0.65 g/cm3 (dry weight about 650 kg/m3); Therefore, it has the distinctive characteristics of anticorrosive, insect-proof and so on. Suitable as a folding chair material.

Design Challenge

This is an innovative design with a complex internal structure, and the machining qualification rate is the biggest challenge encountered by this project.

Project Duration

The project started in September 2020 in Milan and finished in February 2021 in that place, and was exhibited in China in February 2021.

Operation Flow

Start with a tablet. First, grab the bottom beam of the tablet and pull it down. The seat and legs of the chair will snap out. Second, pull the seat and legs to the bottom and fold them up by 90 degrees to form the seat. Finally, fold the legs down 90 degrees to form a chair.

Research

Folding chair is a product that can be seen everywhere in our life and will bring great aspects to our life. Folding chairs are usually used at home to entertain guests or to sit on their own. Easy to fold and save space. According to research, furniture design output value had reached 210 billion euros in 2002, its development prospect is very broad.

Inspiration

The shape of the tablet inspired us to come up with this project. The size of the tablet is very space-saving and easy to store. Folding chairs are also in demand in large public places. We wanted to design a chair with the same function. So, we made the folding chair a flat panel. Usually, it's a chair. It can be folded into a flat sheet when needed.
