Peri is a chair that symbolizes spiritual connection and harmony with nature, inspired by the Tupi Guarani word meaning "field of reeds." Made with sustainable materials, its design reflects the indigenous worldview, incorporating ancestral wisdom and environmental preservation. This project stands out for uniting aesthetics and functionality, promoting a relationship of respect and reverence for nature.

The Peri chair is made using sustainable wood for the base and sisal for the seat and backrest. Its production results from the symbiosis between technology and craftsmanship, where state-of-the-art CNC machines sculpt the organic design into the wood, while manual finishing creates the identity and soul of each piece. Sisal, a natural and biodegradable fiber, is renowned for its durability and sustainable origin, widely used in traditional craftsmanship. The combination of these indigenous artisan techniques with modern eco-friendly production methods ensures a durable and environmentally responsible product.
The biggest challenge was integrating traditional techniques with modern production processes while ensuring the sustainability of materials. We used sisal to represent the fibers traditionally used by the Tupi-Guarani in braided forms, maintaining traditions and embracing sustainability. The lack of formal documentation on Tupi-Guarani artisanal methods required an adaptive and collaborative approach.
The project was developed within a ten-month timeframe, from the creation of initial sketches to the final piece. All stages took place in the cities of Maravilha and Santa Helena. Within this timeframe, several prototypes were developed to verify correct ergonomics and to refine and improve specific design elements. It was publicly presented in Florianópolis as part of the Território collection.
With an ergonomic design that provides comfort to the user. Interacting with the object is intuitive, allowing anyone to appreciate its functionality and natural beauty. The finishing and selected materials ensure durability and easy maintenance.
The research for the Peri chair involved an ethnographic investigation into the Tupi Guarani culture and its traditional craftsmanship methods. The goal was to create a design that reflected this cultural heritage.
The inspiration for the Peri chair came from the rich Tupi Guarani culture and its deep connection with nature. The concept of "Peri" as guardian of the forests and rivers motivated the creation of a design that honors this spiritual heritage. The choice of materials and shapes aims to reflect ancestral wisdom and the harmony between humans and the environment, providing a product that is both a cultural tribute and a functional furniture piece.
