The design of the floating lamp is reminiscent of Zen and slow design. The product is a lighting for people, in the process of use, the rotating float interaction way is different. When lighting, the rotating float makes the worker feel the Zen state, so that the user can achieve the state of concentration. Float is a lamp designed based on the concept of slow design. It can be turned on by the magnetic suspension knob on it, this interactive mode gives users a unique mental flow.

Unique Properties

Float is a lamp designed based on the concept of slow design.It can be turned on by the magnetic suspension knob on it, this interactive mode gives users a unique Mental Flow. The float rotates at a uniform speed make the users be in a buddhist mood to reach a state of full concentration, thus caters to the meditation artistic conception. The simple style and green materials are designed on the concept of Zen and reflect the design concept of advocating nature, returning to nature.

Production Technology

Maglev technology. In terms of materials, we choose polypropylene, aluminum and durable white oak.

Design Challenge

The challenge is how to make the float stay stable and for a long time as it turns. Magnetic levitation device makes the overall center of gravity of the lamp unstable. In order to let the lamp center down, we increased the overall weight of a lamp. Useing of aluminum material, makes it durable ,strong and wear – resistant, but the cost will be relatively higher.

Project Duration

The project started in July 2021 at Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts of Shenyang, Liaoning, China, and be completed in October 2021.

Operation Flow

Floating lamp is rotated to provide lighting. The user can switch the lamp by rotating the suspended object, and the lamp is turned off when the float stops and the light is lit when it moves. The direction of rotation corresponds to the warm and cold light. It creates a good atmosphere to help users better input in the study. The clever union with magnetic levitation technology increases the lamp’s science and technology sense and interest.

Research

Under the concept of slowing down, we should endow lamps with emotion and interesting interactive ways to enhance users' emotional experience in lamps. It uses the magnetic levitation technology, by rotating the float above to make it rotate for a long time to achieve the effect of continuous lighting, The continuous rotation of the float above, the light atmosphere and the smooth rotation of its float will bring the users a peaceful experience, thus quickly entering the state of mindfulness.

Inspiration

In order to allow users to slow down the pace of life in the fast-paced rampant era, to experience the beauty of life. this maglev "floating" light is designed. The product is inspired by "Zen,", the "slow design" concept and emotion applied to this product. The combination of the static and the rotation of the float creates a "Zen" atmosphere and enables people to reach the state of mindfulness.

Project Overview

Float Illumination has been a Iron winner in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design award category in the year 2021 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition. The Iron A' Design Award is awarded to good designs that meet the rigorous professional and industrial standards set by the A' Design Awards. This recognition is reserved for works that demonstrate a solid understanding of design principles and show creativity within their execution. Recipients of the Iron A' Design Award are acknowledged for their practical innovations and contributions to their respective fields, providing solutions that improve quality of life and foster positive change. These designs are a testament to the skill and dedication of their creators, showcasing their ability to address real-world challenges through thoughtful design.
