Moreover, it integrates elegance and utilization for a stunning view of modern home space. The design team is inspired by the surplus materials during the production of modern furniture, which is premium in quality but cannot be reused for its sizes. Thus, they refer to the football and assemble the wood into a regular round shape.

Unique Properties

Saturn is a pet house with a modern style. Making full use of surplus materials of modern wood processing, this product reduces material waste and adheres to the maxim of sustainability. Moreover, it integrates elegance and utilization for a stunning view of modern home space.

Production Technology

In terms of processing techniques, we imitate the way how the footballs are assembled, i.e. using triangles to assemble a round shape. This technique helps us make full use of and reprocess the surplus materials, thus reducing the waste during processing.

Design Challenge

The challenge lies in how to create a cozy environment for cats. Saturn is designed with two holes on either side for better interaction between the pet and its owner. In addition, based on the nature of pets, this product employs dark painting for a comfortable living space.

Project Duration

Started in March 2021 in Beijing, this product was finished in November 2021 in Henan Province and was exhibited in Caochangdi Art District, Beijing.

Operation Flow

The cat can enter the pet house through the large hole, while the owner can interact with the cat via the holes on either side.

Research

The study shows that pet housewares are a hit in the household industry. Saturn can perfectly blend in with the modern household decoration, which caters for the nature of cats and uses quality wood material for security and comfort during usage.

Project Overview

Saturn Cat Bed has been a Silver winner in the Pet Care, Toys, Supplies and Products for Animals Design award category in the year 2021 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition. The Silver A' Design Award celebrates top-tier designs that embody excellence and innovation. This award acknowledges creations that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional, reflecting the designer's deep understanding and skill.
