Seating for Jiangying Guo
Inspired by the swing, this chair could respond to the user's body movements and create a dynamic interaction with the users. Similar to a swing, it is for users to relax and play. The seat and backrest are flexible and adjustable in a way that they are able to follow users' preferred sitting positions and their movements while sitting. The chair also has a minimal structure: the seat and backrest are supported by a simple wood frame (61x61x61cm), allowing the seat to float and the chair to be lightweight.

Chair, Sustainable, Playful, Moveable Seats, Swing
The material here I used Oak wood for the structure, plywood for the seat and backrest, cotton cord for the swing, and rubber screw to connect the backrest.
The hardest part of this design is to control the level of movement, which is affected by the design as well as the material. Allowing too much movement would cause a user to fall off the chair. The thick cotton cord has rough texture and thus create good friction with the wood, in this way, it allows the seat to still create movements but in a controlled and safe way.
This project is completed in Copenhagen in 2017; the duration of design and production took around 2 months.
Both the seat and backrest are adjustable based on user's movement. The angle between the seat and backrest could be adjusted from 120 to 133 degree (please see the image above).
This chair is inspired by the swing. I want to incorporate the playfulness and movement of swing into a chair which is normally considered to have a fixed angle between seat and backrest.
