Production Technology
Standardized production of wood and glass is achieved through CNC machining technology, frosted glass is made through mechanical sandblasting technology, and LED modules are embedded in wood with environmentally friendly glue. The wood surface is polished and waxed to maintain its natural grain and delicate touch.
Design Challenge
The challenge of this project is how to achieve the unification of product form and function from the perspective of Chinese characters. By dismantling the structure of Chinese characters and studying the semantic origin of Chinese characters, we gradually obtained the design basis. The assembly between the various parts of the product is also a challenge for us. We found a solution after learning from the tenon and tenon principle and mechanical balance research.
Project Duration
The project started in October 2020 in Beijing, with model making around November 2020 and completion in early January 2021. And it will be exhibited in the Korean "Brand and Culture" design exhibition in January 2021.
Operation Flow
All components of the Lighten floor lamp are modular and easy to assemble. The product utilizes the balance of mechanics to realize the assembly of various components, and the user can assemble it very easily without using any screws in the process. The switch of the Lighten floor lamp is at the bottom, and the user can adjust the switch and brightness by stepping on it. The brightness is adjusted by the number of three lamp posts turned on.
Research
Combining traditional wisdom and creativity in design is a novel way to allow users to experience modern elements while feeling traditional cultural emotions. This lamp takes Chinese pictographs as a starting point, fully interprets the shape and meaning of light in Chinese characters and analyzes the needs of market users, and finally positions it as innovative, friendly, lightweight and economical. It is suitable for the aesthetics and lifestyle of young people.
Inspiration
Chinese characters are the only morpheme characters left in the world. Lighten floor lamp is a product inspired by Chinese characters. Its shape design is inspired by the structure of "light" in Chinese characters (originated from the gathering of torches).As a lamp, it also echoes the meaning of "light" in Chinese characters. It has realized the unification of product form and Chinese characters' structure, as well as the unification of product function and Chinese characters' meaning.
