Chair for Seoul Metropolitan Government
His design is a chair made of discarded plastic pieces and at the same time serves as a public sculpture. He named the chair "amplification of the senses" and installed it on the Han River, the most beloved place in Seoul. The Han River is one of the few places where citizens can feel nature in the polluted city of Seoul. Through this design, users can relax in the Han River and focus on the scenery and sounds, and through this, they can recall the importance of nature. The designer wanted the design to be functional and include social messages at the same time.

This chair is made of discarded plastic pieces and also serves as a public sculpture. The project was installed in the middle of Seoul, where garbage was poured out, and was named 'Amplification of Sensation' by designer. The designer wanted to encourage citizens to think about environmental issues through this chair, while also allowing them to focus on the sense of perception of the surrounding environment in the city.

The material of this chair is a piece obtained by pulverizing discarded plastic.
In the process of making this chair, collecting materials and experimenting with materials were the most difficult parts. We collected and crushed discarded plastic waste, and conducted various experiments to mold this material back into a chair.
This chair will be manufactured at the request of the Seoul Metropolitan Government in 2018 and then installed on the promenade around the Han River by 2026.
Users can sit on funnel-shaped chairs and focus on the surrounding sounds and scenery. In addition, the user has the opportunity to think about environmental problems by checking the recycled chair materials with his eyes and hands.
These chairs look like funnels or megaphone. When we sit on these chairs, the sounds of trees and rivers are amplified. We can clearly hear not only the sound of nature, but also the sound of someone walking or running fast, sitting for a while and sighing, and bursting laughter out of conversation with friends. The scenery that seems trapped in a narrow field of vision reveals itself more precisely because of that. In this place, our view is transformed into the focused gaze, not a passing gaze. You can fully concentrate on your senses for a short time. And those senses extend outward. Sensory stimulation comes from the outside, something different from me, that is the difference. Our senses can be enhanced in a way of communication all the time. Even at the moment of deviation, we are destined to be connected somewhere continuously. One more thing we can't miss is the use of recycled plastic chips. Although plastics have made our lives convenient, it is causing a lot of environmental problems. We often discuss plastics and marine pollution by it while drinking coffee in a plastic cup ironically. The sense that we are holding plastics in our hand is fading away. Sitting on a chair made of recycled plastics and contacting with it, we could amplify our senses as well as think about environmental issues for a while. Because we can only feel senses coming from the outside.
This chair was designed for urban environmental problems and citizens' rest. The Han River runs through the center of Seoul and is also a place loved by citizens. This river is one of the few places to feel nature in this polluted city. The Seoul Metropolitan Government requested a designer for a public installation for this important place, and Designer designed and installed these chairs.
