Unique Properties
It is a multi-purpose bench design. It draws its strength from its different proportions and multi-functionality. It creates a solution for the different needs during the entrance and exit of the place. The entire revolving tray mechanism is solved in the very thin leg of the product. Despite this, the product, which can be packaged in disassembled form, is designed so that only one person can assemble it. Thanks to the layered use of different materials, seating comfort is provided.

Production Technology
All of the technical details that complete the design and function of the product have been solved by using specially manufactured turning parts. Turning parts that create 8 different technical solutions were solved in 16 mm diameter tube feet without affecting the design. To turn the revolving tray from both the arm and the tray, turning similar to the hinge system are designed. To fix the back upholstery, which is produced as disassembled, a turning and a set screw are used. A special polishing process and a special paint was improved to gained glossy efect on the bright gold metal parts.
Design Challenge
The product is intended to be designed as disassembled. In this case, it was a design challenge how to produce two arms which are the same appearance, one of them has a back upholstery and the other one has revolving tray. It was also a struggle to have the revolving tray rotate from both the arm and the tray. These problems are solved thanks to turning parts.
Project Duration
This design was made in 2020 in Ankara, Turkey.
Operation Flow
The multi-purpose product was designed with the lifestyle of today’s people. It provides an extra storage solution with the wooden tray located under the product and saves the usage volume by closing the revolving tray part. In addition, the upholstery which is producted the layered use of different materials with the dimensions suitable for the ergonomics provides comfort.
Inspiration
It is inspired from ability to move, folding and make them ready for reuse when necessary in built-in furniture existing in Turkish traditional architectural culture. The product is designed to allow different uses during the day to accompany the transformation and movement of life. It is aimed to provide the ease of use of the lifestyle that takes off the shoes that used outside at the entrance of the house. It is the assistant of the host in the entrance of the house for the lifestyle that values hospitality.
Project Overview
Arasta Multifunctional Bench has been a Bronze winner in the Furniture Design award category in the year 2021 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition. The Bronze A' Design Award is given to outstanding designs that showcase a high degree of creativity and practicality. It recognizes the dedication and skill of designers who produce work that stands out for its thoughtful development and innovative use of materials and technology. These designs are acknowledged for their professional execution and potential to influence industry standards positively. Winning this award highlights the designer's ability to blend form and function effectively, offering solutions that enhance people's lives and wellbeing.
