Writing Desk for Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts
The design of the writing desk integrates the modeling of the traditional recessed-leg table with everted flanges. The designer takes the mountain elements as the source of inspiration, and the mild elm creates a unique sensation of hollowing out. The combination of Chinese furniture and minimalism not only has the charm of Chinese classics, but also lacks the simplicity and modesty of modernity. The sets of furniture has mild color, novel shape, stable structure, both external ornamental and functional practicability.

In the design of this writing desk, it integrates the traditional book case shape, and the mild elm creates a unique hollow feeling. It has both classical charm and modern simplicity and modesty. Applying Chinese elements to minimalism is a bold attempt. The book case design is exquisite and natural, which not only has charm, but also meets the functional needs of furniture.
Book case, Chinese element, Mountain element, Elm, Simplicity
The manufacturing process used modern CNC technology, solidworks software design, and CNC milling machine to achieve the form, some special forms are still made by traditional hand, the metal part and the solid wood part both have quite a part made by the artisan own hands, which embodies the spirit of ingenuity, and the importance of traditional craftsmanship. For modern life, it is still a valuable asset, some of the delicate structure still can not be replaced by machines.
Combining the new Chinese elements with the theme of Chinese painting and the simple style to show the comfortable function and the rationality of the use of elements is the biggest challenge in this design.
The design had started in Shenyang in March 2021, completed in Shenyang in June 2021, and displayed in the museum of Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in Shenyang in June in 2021.
When a person sits on the seat to work, the front end of the desk has a small slope, which conforms to ergonomics during work and will not feel pressed. Because the two ends of the desk are "warped". When working or writing and painting, it will reduce the chance of items falling, which is practical and beautiful. A compartment is designed under the bookcase, which not only adds practicality but also increases the beauty of the product.
The theme of Chinese painting is applied to the design of this set of furniture, and the image of "warped" in traditional Chinese furniture and the element of "Shan Xing" in landscape painting are applied to the whole set of books, desks and chairs. The ergonomic design of calligraphy plans is optimized so that users can have a positive user experience when using them. The whole set of furniture is designed with elm wood, which is the second innovation of new Chinese-style furniture.
The design inspiration comes from the recessed-leg table with everted flanges in traditional Chinese furniture. It is convenient to place items and prevent items from falling during office or writing and painting, which is practical and beautiful. Cushions are added to the seat to make it more comfortable to use. The mountain element in traditional landscape painting is adopted in the design of the back plate of the seat, giving users a peaceful and elegant spiritual feeling.
