Orinnoro jar is studio made from recycled waste glass. Every jar is shaped by hand and blown in a wooden mold by using ilcalmo glass blowing technique for the color stripes.
The design challenge in the objects is to create voluminous objects that appear light as well as use color in a way that leaves room for the interior of the piece. The challenge in the process is to find the perfect flow for the colors, so that the appearance is remains fresh.
The project started in 2021 and was first exhibited in Venice Glass Week 2021 at Bel Air Fine Art Gallery. Orinnoro is also exhibited in the Museum of Fine Arts Eemil, Lapinlahti
The Orinnoro jar is designed to create harmonious moments into everyday life. When the tall jar is opened, it takes time and calmness to place items, such as flowers or food inside it to be preserved. These moments of serenity are rare and valuable in a hectic World. When the light interacts with the glass, the shadow looks vivid and alive because of the recycled materials texture. The shadow of the glass object is also an important part of the piece, because glass material is never static. It reacts to the surrounding light and environment.
Preserving the endangered craftsmanship as well as environment by respecting the material are starting points of the design. The object has preserving also as its primary function. The design philosophy is to create high quality everyday objects that hold the value of uniqueness history and provenance. Collection aims to highlight the nature of recycled waste glass in an aesthetic way. Objects appear voluminous yet light in the balance of playfulness serenity and freshness.
The recycled waste glass jar is inspired by the Orinniro gorge located in central Finland. The tall shape as well as the color combinations mirror the atmosphere in the silent natural formation. The design philosophy is to reflect the calm Northern aesthetics with the recycled material that questions the relationship of quality and pureness of the glass medium in modern design. The rough texture of the waste glass with impurities is highlighted as a statement.
