Folding Chair for Lab Holz
A very simple, clean and unique design for a chair, focused on comfort and elegance, made to compose a domestic or corporate environment such a dining room or meeting office. Most of folding chairs are based only on functionality, leaving comfort and aesthetics in the background, this proposal trying to cover all of these needs. Built in cedar wood and biodegradable PLA plastic components, just rotate the seat, close the legs and put it away. Its manufacture brings together manual joinery techniques, computerized cutting and digital manufacturing with a 3d printer.

VELGA is a very simple and clean design for a folding chair, built in cedar wood and biodegradable PLA plastic components, just rotate the seat, close the legs and put it away
chair, wood, folding, seat
The chair is basically made of cedar, its legs and backrest are cut using a cnc machine, the seat is cut manually, both the seat and the backrest have a concavity and are handcrafted using planes to give the feeling of a handmade product, the components of axles and locks are made through 3d printer with biodegradable PLA plastic filament
the biggest challenge of the project was to create something ultra simple, that didn't need fasteners and buttons to use, the development of the axis of rotation for the hind legs was a completely customized system to be able to follow the concept of simplicity and with that to develop the system of locking the legs using the seat
The project started its development in april 2023, building the first prototype that required adjustments to the seat and backrest angles, the second prototype validated the angles and allowed working on the development of the components, the final version of the chair was ready in august 2023, with the test of plastic components
The operation of this chair starts by opening the back legs and then rotating the seat until it fits in the locking pins, getting it ready to sit down
Most of the folding chairs available on the market have a rectilinear design, which only prioritizes practicality and not comfort, so we returned to the project to develop something comfortable and elegant for a sophisticated environment.
Small apartments and the need for practical furniture that can optimize the living space have become common, that's why our proposal is a folding chair, comfortable that can be used both for dining and office, clean and simple design, in wood to provide a elegant and minimalist aesthetic
