Folding Chair for Ming-Hsiu Lee and Jui-Chung Hu
Standly Bao is a assistive device for workers who need to go through long period of standing, keeping them in fine standing posture and mental state, at the same time having the same mobility as standing. With three points pressure method, pressure of lower limbs can be reduced, thus keeping workers from developing wrong standing posture. When the device is folded up, it gives back the space to narrow working space such as counters in bar or department store.

The hardest part is to figure out the working environment in different workspace, and come out with the design that is practical and useful. To overcome it, we did many interviews and research with workers from different workspace.
The project started in July 2019 in Taipei and finished in May 2020 in Taipei, and was exhibited in NTUST design graduation exhibition. Standly Bao is awarded Young Pin Design Award in 2020.
When user feel like resting, just simply pull out the device, and place user's knees on to the lower mat while the upper mat gently move below user's breech, supporting most of the body weight. When user is in the device, one can shift balance backward and forward to meet suitable posture. When user get out of the device, the bottom joint of Standly Bao has a spring which makes the device automatically come back to it's original position. The bottom panel can be folded up, providing user a step to stretch or place his feet. When storing multiple Standly Bao, the bottom panel can be rotated backward for a flat form. *For more detailed description, please check our video.
Type of Research : Human Factors Research Research Objectives : To find the most suitable dimention for most people Methodology : First we worked with the physical therapist to figure out the mechanism of the reason causing backpain and leg sore. Later on, we try to use three point pressure method(fix the position of hip/ knee/ feet) to lower the stress of the body when long time standing. Later on, we made many versions of prototype and tested it with hundreds of people to come up with the final design. Data Collection and Research Tools Used: We used many versions of prototype in different stage of our design. *For more detailed description, please check our document file. Participants or Experiments: For example when we were deciding the dimention, we made a prototype which can adjust the position of the upper mat(for breech) and the bottom mat(for knees) , and we took photos of the side view to document the data. We experimented with hundreds of participants, and we collected the data and analyzed. Results: We get the most suitable dimention for most people to use as well as the most practical way to adjust. *For more detailed description, please check our document file.
In many working environments where sitting is not permitted (ex: bar tender, street vendor), workers have to endure long period of standing. It can really harm our health, causing back pain, leg sore and more, making one's working experience awful. Thus, we want to build a device that can make these workers in service industry feel better while stand working. After interviewing some workers, we collabed with physic therapists and made series of prototype, which help our design more practical.
