Lighting for Sean Lin Design
The entire light structure is intricately crafted into an organic form using advanced metalworking techniques. Two nest-like metal sheets intertwine, creating a dynamic pattern that shifts from different angles when suspended. At the center, a doughnut-shaped light hangs, casting illumination through the circular aperture between the metal layers. Soft glimmers filter through the interwoven metal threads, adding depth and warmth to the ambient lighting.

The entire light structure is intricately shaped into an organic form using advanced metalworking techniques. Complementing this design, two pieces of nest-like metal sheets intertwine, offering a different organic pattern and lines from various angles when suspended at home. In the center hangs a doughnut-shaped light. The light radiates through the circular aperture between the two metal pieces, while soft glimmers shine through the interwoven metal threads, providing the right illumination.

The two metal sheets are intricately woven into an organic form using advanced techniques, and in the center, a translucent light tube takes on a doughnut-shaped design. The bird's nest symbolizes the warmth and comfort of home, and this intricately crafted lamp imparts a sense of warm longing to people.
Bird's nests are a natural element extensively incorporated into design, ranging from jewelry and furniture to architecture. This piece explores a fresh interpretation of the bird's nest motif and meticulous material selection, proving to be the most challenging aspect. Simultaneously, it contemplates the relationship between light and form. Throughout the design process, constant exploration and refinement have been directed towards the organic form woven through two metal threads and the interplay between light and metal reflections. This contemplation extends to the subtle illumination emanating from the gaps within the metal threads.
The project started in September 2022 in Brooklyn, NYC and finished in August 2023 in Brooklyn, NYC.
When suspended at home and viewed from different angles, the pendant light reveals various facets, offering distinct visual experiences through the interplay between the two harmonious organic metal sheets and the light. The light seeping through the metal threads resonates with the soft glow, creating a dynamic interaction.
In ancient China, threads held diverse meanings, with one of the most common associations being with feelings of longing. This linguistic connection stems from the phonetic similarity between missing and silk or threads. This linguistic resemblance gave rise to a metaphor for the hidden sentiments between individuals. This artwork is created by intertwining millions of metal threads, symbolizing the profound yearning and mutual support among people. In Eastern culture, circular forms evoke feelings of completeness and unity. The pendant light's structure is meticulously crafted using advanced metalworking techniques, resulting in an organic circular design. Placed within homes, it symbolizes the connections between family members.
Nest Lamp draws its inspiration from the natural nests found in the wild. It takes the form of an organic shape created by intertwining millions of metal threads. This intricate interweaving of metal threads symbolizes the profound bonds and mutual support between family members. In ancient China, silk was often associated with longing due to its similar pronunciation. Placed within homes, it gently emits a soft glow through the metal threads, creating a warm ambiance.
