Melty was produced by applying auto acrylic paint on polyester material. First, I shaped the Melty handles with ceramic paste in my hand. I smoothed them with sandpaper. After painting with spray paint, the molds of these models were taken and mass production was done with polyester. The polyesters obtained were puttyed and sanded in 4 layers and painted with auto acrylic paint. Varnishing was done on them. Melty's glass jars were handmade in the glass factory. The lids were cut from acrylic material in special sizes. Melty handles were fixed to the acrylic lids by screwing.
The most difficult part of the production was painting the polyester Melty handles smoothly and shiny on all sides after they came out of the mold.
The project design and hand-made ceramic dough production began in Istanbul in August 2023. After various production trials, it was completed in March 2024.
The handles are ergonomically designed to allow easy holding and opening of the lid.
While making Melty handles, I did some research on which material I could make the shape I imagined. Among the alternatives of polyester, glass, wood, and ceramic, I focused on polyester, which I was sure would be the easiest to mass-produce and durable. Then, I shaped the forms I imagined one by one with ceramic paste in my hand and sanded them to their final form. Silicone molds of the shapes I obtained were taken and I had hundreds of polyester copies. Afterwards, I researched painting techniques that would allow me to paint smoothly. The smooth and shiny paint I liked the most was auto acrylic paint. Since I did not want to glue the handles to my acrylic covers, I researched how to fix the screw to the handle and the types of nuts. I mounted the handles to the acrylic covers with the help of this screw.
Inspired by the action of melting and flowing, Melty was designed to be a part of stylish and different presentations. While making Melty, I researched how I could go into mass production, how I could achieve the shiny and smooth appearance I wanted, and how I could mount Melty without gluing it to the acrylic cover.
