MyO is an innovative wearable suite for later Gen Y and Gen Z fitness enthusiasts and athletes seeking muscle performance insights. Featuring EMG sensors in a waist belt, leg strap, and shoulder strap, MyO delivers real-time feedback via a user-friendly APP. Its soft geometric design, modular assembly, and sustainable materials combine functionality, aesthetics, and eco-consciousness.

The MyO sports wearable suite was developed using a user-centered design approach, guided by extensive research into later Gen Y and Gen Z preferences and fitness needs. Prototypes were crafted through iterative testing, combining advanced EMG sensor technology with modular, ergonomic designs. Materials such as medical-grade silicone and hypoallergenic fabrics were chosen for durability, comfort, and sustainability. Additive manufacturing and precision engineering ensured accuracy in fit and function.
The biggest challenge was integrating advanced EMG technology into a compact, ergonomic wearable while meeting diverse user needs. Research involved studying EMG technology and conducting interviews with fitness enthusiasts, athletes, and rehabilitation patients to understand their demand for precise muscle feedback. By combining these insights with iterative prototyping and testing, MyO achieved usability, comfort, and eco-conscious design.
The MyO project began in January 2024 in Savannah, Georgia, and concluded with its non-working prototypes in November 2024 in Savannah, Georgia. The design process included research, sketching, study modeling, prototyping, 3D modeling and rendering, 3D printing, and user testing. MyO now actively participates in international concept design competitions to showcase its innovative approach to wearable sports technology and seek sponsorship or investment opportunities.
MyO operates seamlessly through its modular wearable suite, which includes a waist belt, leg strap, shoulder strap, and receiver unit. Each device integrates EMG sensors to monitor muscle activity in real-time. The receiver sends Data to a companion app, providing actionable feedback on muscle engagement, fatigue, and form. Users can adjust the fit for ergonomic comfort, and modular components allow easy customization. This design ensures precise performance tracking and optimized training outcomes.
Over 200 questionnaires and 20 interviews revealed a market gap: users demand detailed muscle analytics, but advanced EMG technology remains inaccessible to most. Fitness enthusiasts, athletes, and rehabilitation patients require precise, real-time muscle data for training, performance, and recovery. Gen Z and Gen Y users prefer eco-friendly, minimalistic designs with sustainable, hypoallergenic materials. These insights shaped MyO, blending professional-grade technology with user-friendly, accessible design.
This project's inspiration is the need to bridge a significant gap in fitness technology for later Gen Y and Gen Z users. Current wearables often lack real-time, muscle-specific feedback, which is crucial for athletes and fitness enthusiasts aiming to optimize performance, prevent injuries, or recover effectively. Drawing on advanced electromyography (EMG) technology and insights from user research, the design prioritizes ergonomic comfort, modern aesthetics, and actionable data.
