The Da Vinci Lamp was developed using advanced cad software, allowing for precise modeling and simulation of its mechanical components. The design incorporates lightweight yet robust materials, such as aluminum and high quality polymers, to ensure durability while minimizing weight. The circular led head utilizes cutting edge optical technology to deliver optimal light distribution. Employing a modular construction approach, each component can be easily assembled or replaced, enhancing the lamp’s longevity and sustainability. Rigorous prototyping and testing were conducted to refine the balance between aesthetics and functionality, ensuring superior performance.
The hardest part of the Da Vinci Lamp design process was balancing innovative aesthetics with functional usability. One significant creative challenge was integrating advanced technology, such as adjustable mechanisms, within a minimalist design without compromising its elegance. Historical perspectives on lighting design influenced our approach, as we sought to honor classic forms while introducing modern elements.
The project start in January 2023 in Padua (Italy)
The Da Vinci Lamp is designed for effortless operation, allowing users to adjust its position easily. With a simple touch, the circular led head can rotate and pivot to direct light wherever needed, making it ideal for various activities, from reading to ambient lighting. Its mechanical arm smoothly transforms, providing flexibility in height and angle. This adaptability enhances user experience, as it ensures optimal lighting conditions tailored to individual preferences. The lamp’s innovative design not only improves functionality but also elevates any space with its modern aesthetic, offering both style and practicality
The design research for the Da Vinci Lamp focused on understanding user needs and preferences in lighting solutions. The primary objective was to create a lamp that combines functionality with aesthetic appeal. We employed qualitative methods, including surveys and interviews, to gather insights from potential users. Tools like cad software helped visualize concepts, while 3d printing facilitated rapid prototyping. Participants included a diverse group of users, ranging from designers to everyday consumers, who tested various prototypes. The results revealed a strong demand for adjustable lighting options and modern design. Insights indicated that users value flexibility and style, which significantly impact their choices in home decor. This research underscores the importance of user centered design, influencing not only our lamp but also broader trends in lighting and furniture design, ultimately shaping business strategies and enhancing user experiences in everyday life.
The Da Vinci lamp has been designed to give the user the possibility of being tilted and rotated as desired, according to different needs. Its flexibility also gives life to infinite "shapes" that are outlined in space, thanks to a series of joints and levers. Da Vinci as the name suggests, is inspired by the machines of Leonardo Da Vinci, where his vision of the anatomy of machines and of man found in a series of masterful drawings that mark the birth of modern scientific illustration.
Da Vinci Lamp has been a Iron winner in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design award category in the year 2024 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition. The Iron A' Design Award is awarded to good designs that meet the rigorous professional and industrial standards set by the A' Design Awards. This recognition is reserved for works that demonstrate a solid understanding of design principles and show creativity within their execution.
