Production Technology

The coffee bean storage canister features a unique dual layer structure design to minimise heat transfer and establish a consistent temperature environment for its contents. Its outer shell, constructed from durable ABS, effectively withstands external impacts, protecting the canister from damage. The inner liner is high quality SUS304 stainless steel, ensuring exceptional resistance to corrosion and heat, safeguarding the contents and fortifying the overall longevity of the product.

Design Challenge

The canister features a double sealed design with a buckle and silicone ring. This design effectively prevents oxygen from compromising the beans, thus reducing the risk of oxidization and extending the shelf life of the coffee beans. The one way air vent valve can expel the carbon dioxide produced during coffee bean roasting, complemented by dual layer structure, blocking the entry of external gases and effectively preventing air factors from affecting the flavour of the coffee beans.

Project Duration

The project was designed on May 2, 2023, and was sold online on April 28, 2024.

Operation Flow

The product is equipped with a humidity monitoring meter to detect the storage environmental humidity in real time. It lets users promptly adjust the placement of the canister, ensuring the bean under the best storage conditions. Users can utilize the date recording disc on the top of the canister to note the date. With the metal bulletin board, users can document the information on the coffee beans stored, facilitating a visual assessment of the coffee bean freshness at a later stage.

Research

The storage condition influences the quality of coffee beans. Factors such as humidity, light, and air pressure directly impact the flavour and aroma of the beans once they are ground and brewed.Addressing this concern, this novel coffee bean storage canister improves structure and functions, providing appropriate storage conditions and ensuring prolonged preservation of coffee beans. These designs facilitate users brewing high quality coffee with well stored beans anytime.

Inspiration

Drawing inspiration from the WRC rally car prototype, the design team has given the canister a sleek and minimalist appearance, featuring a classic black and white colour scheme that exudes a professional and steady visual effect. This makes the product can harmoniously blend into various of modern home decoration styles.

Project Overview

Gambo Coffee Sealed Canister has been a Bronze winner in the Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware and Cookware Design award category in the year 2024 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition. The Bronze A' Design Award is given to outstanding designs that showcase a high degree of creativity and practicality. It recognizes the dedication and skill of designers who produce work that stands out for its thoughtful development and innovative use of materials and technology. These designs are acknowledged for their professional execution and potential to influence industry standards positively. Winning this award highlights the designer's ability to blend form and function effectively, offering solutions that enhance people's lives and wellbeing.
