After determining the desired pattern based on the functionality and spatial needs of each project or user preferences, the extruded body profile undergoes the bending process. The LED light is then installed inside the profile. Following this, the top cap and diffuser are laser-cut and attached to the body. This process ensures that each component fits precisely, providing a seamless and efficient lighting solution tailored to the specific requirements of the space.
The challenges of this process include creating unique patterns that are both functional and visually striking. Additionally, transforming two-dimensional patterns into large-scale lighting products posed its own difficulties. Finding the best solution for manufacturing these designs while maintaining their visual and functional integrity was a key challenge, ensuring that the final product would meet both aesthetic and technical requirements.
Conceived in July 2024, this innovative lighting concept was developed over six months in Vienna, Austria, by January 2025.
This design interacts simultaneously with both the environment and the user. The pattern can either be directly designed by the user or created to suit a specific space. Additionally, this customization capability aligns with the functional needs of the space, enhancing its architectural synergy. By allowing users to personalize the design, the lighting solution fosters a dynamic relationship between the space, its purpose, and the people who inhabit it.
In designing this product, we explored geometric principles and graphic patterns, ultimately drawing inspiration from the work of Swiss graphic designer Armin Hofmann. Using his principles, we developed a series of patterns specifically suited to our space. We analyzed the challenges of constructing patterns derived from the tangent connections of circles, which guided us through the detailed design and manufacturing process of the lighting fixtures. For the body profile, we optimized the design using aluminum extrusion, ensuring a perfect fit for the top aluminum cap, bottom diffuser, and adequate space for LED installation. After testing the models in various spaces with different architectural requirements, we found that this product not only interacts with its primary user but also serves as an essential element for designers and architects, contributing significantly to the identity of the space.
Inspired by Armin Hofmann’s geometric studies, our lighting design explores the connection between circles and their tangents. This approach enabled us to create adaptable patterns that respond to both the spatial context and the objects they illuminate. By refining these patterns for both form and function, we enhance the interplay of light and shadow, enriching the atmosphere while ensuring that the design is both aesthetically pleasing and functionally effective in the space.
