Crackdown is crafted using precision laser cutting technology on high-quality metal sheets with a satin finish. The lighting elements use energy-efficient LED bulbs housed in crackle glass, creating a mesmerizing glow. The socket is brass-plated to evoke a warm, golden hue reminiscent of sunlight. The modular design allows easy assembly and versatile use in various interior spaces.
The main challenge was achieving the balance between functionality and artistic expression. Ensuring structural integrity while maintaining a sleek form required precise engineering and material selection. The interplay of light through crackle glass without glare was challenging, demanding meticulous testing. Additionally, designing modular components for versatile usage posed creative and technical difficulties.
The project started in December 2024 in Istanbul and was completed in February 2025.
Crackdown is designed for easy use with a plug-and-play system. The modular structure allows flexible placement, whether as a floor lamp or pendant. Its crackle glass disperses light dynamically, creating artistic shadows and an ambient glow. The brass-plated socket enhances the warmth of the light, providing a comfortable atmosphere. It is operated via a touch-sensitive switch for user convenience.
The research focused on exploring light interactions with textured glass and metallic surfaces. Objectives included achieving dynamic ambient lighting and an elegant aesthetic. Methods involved material experimentation, 3D modeling, and lighting renders. Results showed high satisfaction in ambiance and functionality, influencing the design's minimalist yet impactful form.
Inspired by the harmony of solid structures and voids, Crackdown reflects the contrast between strength and delicacy. The crackle glass emulates fractured surfaces, creating dynamic light effects. The brass-plated socket symbolizes sunlight's warmth, enhancing the design’s connection to nature. Its minimalist approach is influenced by Japandi style, balancing simplicity and boldness. It embodies the beauty of light and shadow interaction.
