The cylinder part of the waste b48o engine is made of aluminum, cleaned and polished after disassembly. The base structure is made of stainless-steel made with laser cutting and welding. The sound system is a high-fidelity passive speaker. The panel and assembly parts are made of aluminum and plastic. The engine cylinder is very suitable for making high-end speakers, because the denser and thicker the shell, the less the acoustic resonance and the less noise from the shell vibration.
Automobile waste parts are well finished products, which are made up of specific shapes and materials. It is different with a total new design from zero, it has great limitation in shape and function, production technique. In order to design products by using automobile waste parts, we need to develop easy way for disassembling and cleaning, polish and surface finishing, and specific easy made structure based on product function.
The project started in September 2019 in Shanghai and finished in October 2019 in Shanghai, and was exhibited in Experience Shanghai in December 2019.
This is a passive speaker of high fidelity audio system, which needs to be used with high fidelity playback equipment.
We started from disassembling, cleaning, polishing, coating process of these parts. We try to think about the shape and material characteristics of these parts and apply them with possible functions. For example, we design the engine cylinder as a high-end speaker, the big engine cover as a table, and the exhaust pipe as a vintage turntable system. Through such a design experiment, we could extend the car culture of fuel vehicles in different way with a sustainable idea.
This is an experimental design project for experience center Shanghai, the original target is to design with automobile waste parts based on sustainable idea. A great number of waste parts are being produced in the process of automobile production, maintenance and abandonment. The wastes treatment method is classified recycling. But private cars also have the value of memorial collection for many people. We start from this experimental design to explore using car waste parts as material to design furniture with emotional, collection and brand value.
