Folded 01 is the latest design by Erno Dierckx. In his work he tries to challenge the way everyday object are constructed and goes back to the essence of the product. In this way every object gets a minimalistic yet sophisticated look. Erno Dierckx works with honest durable materials and subtle color details. The goal of this year is to find the right partner to bring the chair into production and expand the collection, including a table and lounge chair.

The chair consists out of honestand durable materials with a subtle color detail.

Production Technology

The chair consist out of a hand bended aluminum sheet. The raw material is combined with a coloured steel frame.

Design Challenge

The main challenge was te find a reliable folding technique with a minimal and beautiful appearance

Project Duration

Project started Februari 2018 in Antwerp Belgium and finished november 2019. First time exhibited Contemporary design fair Brussels.

Operation Flow

Folded 01 is a dinning chair made out of a single sheet raw aluminum. The folding technique gives the chair the needed comfort and has a natural bending effect

Inspiration

The idea started while playing with a post-it note used to right down ideas. By folding the square sheet a rigid shape arises. This technique was used to construct a chair. The folded chair consists out of a raw aluminum sheet bend by hand and mounted on a colored steel frame.

Folded 01 Dinning Chair has been a Silver winner in the Furniture Design award category in the year 2019 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition.
