Most of the wooden furniture is mainly made of solid wood, which can only show a soft feeling in the modeling lines, but the entity is hard, and will produce a lot of waste during the production process. GanDan is a handcrafted bench, using veneer as the main expression, inspired by silkworm spinning and cocooning and by enlacing method to windup the shape of a bench, it produces a gradual beauty through continuous winding. It looks hard like the wooden bench but soft elasticity feel when sitting on. Without any waste or scrap when it was made which is relatively environmentally friendly.

Material: golden teak wood veneer, wood, foam. Production technology: CNC milling, lathe, foam Wire cutting Handcraft Technique: Bunaco wrapping and enlacing veneer ribbon, manual polish.
BUNACO's traditional craftsmanship mainly uses beech wood as the main material, and we have also tried to use sharba wood (that is, plane wood), which is thicker, easy to break, and entangled very hard. The change of shape, how to wind the veneer symmetrically and regularly bothered us. We found the golden teak veneer by chance and found that the gloss and softness of it were the most appropriate.
The project started in August 2020 in Taiwan , completed in February 2021, first debut in March and will exhibit in Young Designers’ Exhibition in World Trade Center, May 2021.
Taking shape of the bench by wrapping and enlacing wood veneer in Bunaco style, with foam inside the cocoon sphere, it looks hard like the wooden bench but soft elasticity when sitting. Since the production procedure is wrapping and enlacing with wood veneer, no waste or scrap of wood produced.
Taiwan’s woodworking craftsmanship has a long history. In recent years, with the advancement of the technology industry, most of the demand for wooden furniture on the market has been produced in large quantities by industrial machine processing methods. Handmade furniture is gradually being replaced, and the value of hand-made woodworking crafts has gradually been lost. The masses ignore. Taking BUNACO as the research theme, I hope that wooden furniture can be presented in the most gentle way, and find this traditional craft technique originated from Aomori Prefecture, Japan.
Inspired by the silkworm spinning and cocooning, with reference to the traditional craftsmanship of Aomori Prefecture, Japan, take shape by enlacing the golden teak wood veneer. Continuous wrapped in circles and layers, showing the beauty of veneer gradation.
