Design Challenge
The most challenging part is the structural design. Based on the connection and self-locking function of mortise and tenon structure, a new mortise and tenon structure was innovatively designed to realize the unarmed disassembly function and firmness of the Moon Chair. Its structural form is presented in a perfect blend with modern aesthetics!
Project Duration
The project started in April 2018 in Hangzhou and finished in August 2020 in Hangzhou.
Operation Flow
Open the product package, and assemble the product in 2-3 steps; the operation is very convenient, you can experience the fun of assembly, and the completed product is solid and durable.
Research
Nowadays, the young generation has lower income, small living space, likes online shopping, moves frequently and pursues a certain quality of life. They need flexible, space-saving, easy-to-use, simple and stylish furniture to improve their quality of life. Moon Chair skillfully uses traditional mortise and tenon structure, the whole product has no metal connectors, and can be assembled and disassembled with bare hands, and the beauty of its structure well demonstrates the wisdom of the predecessors. The flat design greatly reduces transportation costs and is ideal for online sales.
Inspiration
The current young generation of people with low income, narrow living space, like online shopping, often moving, the pursuit of a certain quality of life. We hope to design a new mortise and tenon structure based on the traditional mortise and tenon structure, combined with the toughness of wood materials, to realize a high degree of integration of the disassembling function, firmness and aesthetics of the chair!
Project Overview
Moon Chair Self Assembled Seating has been a Bronze winner in the Furniture Design award category in the year 2023 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition. The Bronze A' Design Award is given to outstanding designs that showcase a high degree of creativity and practicality. It recognizes the dedication and skill of designers who produce work that stands out for its thoughtful development and innovative use of materials and technology. These designs are acknowledged for their professional execution and potential to influence industry standards positively. Winning this award highlights the designer's ability to blend form and function effectively, offering solutions that enhance people's lives and wellbeing.
